Kontakt coffee: This is a coffee lover’s paradise and it also fuels my (Daniel’s) inner coffee snob, as they refuse to serve sugar with their coffee. Just this year, they have started roasting their own beans, so this is where most of our home coffee comes from as well. It’s about 2.5 miles from our flat, so during lockdown it was a nice walk to stock up on coffee beans.
Pékműhely: While, of course Amanda’s baking is amazing, having a local place to pop down to is always good. This place has some of the best chocolate csigas and they make this pastry that has gorgonzola and jalapeños twisted inside of it—they call it a cravat. The pastries are made fresh every morning, and I think it has become the (semi) equivalent of going to a donut shop.
Kelet: This is more of a café then a straight coffee shop, but it has a perfect blend of good food, variety of drinks (excellent coffee too), and seating that makes it excellent for meetings or any work that needs to be done. The books lining the wall make it quite fun as well.
We do more than just eat and drink though—some of our favorite places to go include the bridge by our flat, Szabadság híd (Freedom bridge) and a clearing on a hill behind our flat (Gellért Hill). Honestly, that hill is wonderful, be it running up or standing on top to get a view of the city, it takes my breath away even after all this time.
I know this may have been a strange format, but I hope this update gave you a little more insight to who we are and what life looks like on our side. Amanda will share her side of things next month. We know this is still a crazy and hard time, but we would love for you to take a few moments to reflect on what you are thankful for and to share them with us.
