Old Updates: The One Where we Move Back to the States

Winter 2023

We must start this letter off with a huge “thank you”. We are officially back in the United States and it has been a whirlwind to say the least! Moving across the ocean is one thing, but it’s a totally different experience with a little one.

Thank you ALL for your patience, your prayers, and your kindness. I attribute our smooth travels and the pockets of peace we felt in the midst of this whole transition to you surrounding us in prayer. We really can’t say thank you enough.

Thank you as well for giving us the space to process. For a person who works in communications, our little bit of silence has felt deafening to me, and I know you all have questions and have been eager to hear more details about our transition and just how we are doing. We have felt incredibly loved and cared for through your reaching out to say you are praying and simply letting us have a bit of time.

Arlo has been a great traveler from the beginning!

So how are we doing?

That feels like a difficult question to answer. I think the best way to answer it is that we find ourselves very tangibly living in that Kingdom tension of the “already” and the “not yet”, with all of the happy-sad emotions that entails.

We miss our home in Budapest, our friends, and our found family there. We miss silly little things like being able to pop downstairs to the grocery store (especially handy with a little guy whose whole job seems to be going through diapers!) But we are also resting in a newfound peace knowing that God released us from our time in Hungary and that following Him is the most important thing.

Which leads to the next logical question; what’s next?

We have had multiple meetings with our leadership both on the field in Hungary as well as those in leadership at headquarters in Greenwood and we have all agreed that right now we are what they call “missionaries in transition”.

Essentially, that is a fancy title to say that OMS is allowing us a bit of time and space after leaving Hungary to really take things to God and figure out what’s next. We didn’t leave Hungary with any ill-will or because we don’t believe in the work God is doing through OMS, we just both felt released from our time there although not necessarily from OMS as a whole. We are currently exploring and praying about other positions within OMS.

So now, we need a few things from you. The first and most important is for you to keep praying. As I’ve said so many times before, the only way we are ever able to get anything done is by the grace of God and for us a huge part of that is you all surrounding us in prayer. Please pray for wisdom as we discern our next steps and as we continue to meet with others in OMS. Please also continue to pray as we adjust to our life back here in the states, things have changed since we last lived here!

Finally, we ask that you continue to support us financially as you feel led. If we are ultimately completely released from service with OMS we will let you all know and help you with any financial questions you have.

We are praying and seeking discernment while talking to our leadership regarding our next steps in obedience to God's call on our lives. We will keep you all informed and hugely appreciate your prayers during this time!
