Old Update Letter: The One From New Years 2020

Winter 2020

Boldog Uj Evet!

For our first update of 2020, we wanted to keep it simple and just do as the name implies: give you all a bit of an update about our lives here in Budapest and what we have been up to/have coming up in the next few weeks and months.

This was our first Christmas together as a married couple and we really enjoyed getting

to slow down, celebrate together, and begin some of our own traditions, like attending a midnight service at our church here in Budapest.

Fun fact: we heard this song for the first time in Hungarian and fell in love with it. We had no idea it was an English song originally! This is our church here in Budapest singing: https://youtu.be/OGTluPeHcdg

Although Christmas was restful, we have started the new year off in a kind of sprint. We just finished up the first level of language and will start the next level soon. We are really enjoying learning Hungarian and it’s nice to be able to study together and encourage each other as we build our language skills. It’s amazing how something as simple as learning how to count in Hungarian has made interacting with our surroundings so much easier!

Last week Daniel attended a weeklong coaching class here in Budapest. It was the culmination of a course he has been taking online for the past eight months. During our time in CROSS Training at OMS headquarters Daniel realized his heart for encouraging and empowering others and this course has been helping to give him a tangible set of skills to do just that.

Looking forward to the next few months here on the field, we will still be focusing heavily on language school but we are also beginning to step more fully into our roles here in Business as Missions. Please pray for us as we not only continue to acclimate to life here, but also as we work to get business foundations laid out. We are starting from the ground up, ensuring that the governing non-profit organization here in Hungary is set up well before we move forward on any kind of bakery/coffeehouse business. Please pray specifically for wisdom in setting everything up. As a Business as Missions team here we committed January to praying and listening, so please join us in that step forward into February, so that however we move forward, it’s from Him and not our own strength.

As always, thank you again for all of your prayers and support. Knowing that we have people praying for us encourages us, especially on long, dark winter days when it could be so easy to give in to discouragement.
